Purpose

The Board of Equalization is responsible for assuring that all real and personal property is entered on the county’s assessment role as “fair value.”  Our goal is to provide impartial and economical adjudication of tax appeals brought by property owners which is consistent with legislatively established tax policies.

Responsibilities

The Board of Equalization members are responsible for reviewing all appeals brought forward by the citizens of Cowlitz County that do not get resolved with the Cowlitz County Assessor’s Office prior to their scheduled hearings.  

Time Commitment

Board members attend seasonal hearings, review cases, listen to taxpayer and Assessor’s office staff. Hearings may last all day and all cases are reviewed by the Board members prior to each scheduled hearing.
