Courtroom Procedures & Protocol

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Cowlitz County Superior Court continues to allow Zoom and hybrid court appearances. While some dockets have returned to full in-person, others are Zoom only. To see the daily dockets and access Zoom hearing information, click here.

Zoom booths are available for those who do not have access to a smart device, computer, or the internet. They are located on the second floor of the Hall of Justice, in the hallway across from Courtroom 1.

Courtroom Decorum

  • Be on time. You should be in the courtroom (virtual or physical) ready to proceed at the scheduled time. 
  • Do not interrupt the Court. Wait your turn. The Court will call on you when they are ready to hear from you.
  • Recording, broadcasting, and photography of court proceedings is not permitted. 
  • Dress appropriately. Shorts, flip flops, and other kinds of beach apparel are not appropriate. Graphic t-shirts depicting alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs are not permitted. Hats are not allowed in the courtroom unless required by religious custom. 
  • Do not approach a witness or juror without express permission from the Court. 
  • Electronic devices are not allowed in the courtroom. Cellphones must be on silent or vibrate before entering the courtroom.
