The Cowlitz County Noxious Weed Control Board submitted a public notice for publication in The Daily News, for the expiring term of Weed Area #3 representative, on December 15th and 29th, 2022 for anyone interested in serving on the Noxious Weed Control Board. Appointments are conducted per the rules outlined in RCW 17.10.050.
The Cowlitz County Noxious Weed Control Board held a hearing on January 11, 2023 to consider all applicants. Immediately following the hearing, the Noxious Weed Board held its regularly scheduled public meeting to discuss any and all applicants for these expiring terms. The Noxious Weed Control Board recommends Mrs. Dixie Edwards serve as the Weed Area #3 representative.

The Cowlitz County Noxious Weed Control Board will meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in 2023, with the exception of July and August, when they will meet on July 26. The meetings are held at 6:00 PM in the second floor meeting room of the County Administration Annex building at 207 Fourth Avenue North, Kelso, WA 98626. If public health or other restrictions are in place they may occur solely in an online format. NOTICE OF TERM EXPIRATION
The Cowlitz County Noxious Weed Control Board is accepting applications from residents interested in serving on the Noxious Weed Control Board. The Appointment will be conducted per the rules outlined in RCW 17.10.050. Applications will be accepted and reviewed for the following expiring term:
- Geographical Area No. 3: Northwest County; West Longview, Lexington, Columbia Heights, Coal Creek, Stella, Ryderwood
This is a non-paying 4-year term position appointed by the Cowlitz County Board of Commissioners (BOCC) to oversee the noxious weed control program’s policies and priorities within the County.

The Noxious Weed Control Board will review applications at a hearing scheduled for January 11, 2023, at 6 PM. Following the hearing, the Noxious Weed Control Board will hold their regular meeting to discuss applications and recommend candidates to the BOCC for the appointment of the Area #3 position. The BOCC will appoint the new terms, which will begin March 1, 2023.
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
The Cowlitz County Noxious Weed Control Board will hold a public hearing regarding changes to land classifications, including public lands, and rates of the noxious weed assessment. The Weed Board may consider other adjustments. The hearing will be held on September 14, 2022, at 6:00 PM in the Cowlitz County Annex Building, second floor meeting room at 207 Fourth Avenue N., Kelso, WA 98626 and may be available by GoToMeeting if remote attendance is requested in advance by attendees. The purpose of this hearing is to obtain public testimony for noxious weed assessment changes in Cowlitz County. The regular monthly board meeting will follow the public hearing to determine the Noxious Weed Control Board’s recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners regarding the proposed changes to the assessment in accordance with RCW 17.10.240.

GENERAL NOTICE: REQUIREMENTS TO CONTROL NOXIOUS WEEDS
The Washington State Noxious Weed Law, RCW 17.10.140 requires every owner to perform or cause to be performed those acts as may be necessary to: eradicate all class A noxious weeds; control and prevent the spread of all class B noxious weeds designated for control in that region within and from the owner’s property; and control and prevent the spread of all class B and class C noxious weeds listed on the county weed list as locally mandated control priorities within and from the owner’s property.”

Failure to observe this notice may result in the Noxious Weed Control Program:
- Serving a legal notice requiring control of the noxious weeds within a minimum of 14 days. Failure to control the noxious weeds within the time period allowed may result in the weed program treating the noxious weeds at the landowner's expense and placing a lien on the property if the bill is not paid within 30 days or
- Filing a notice of civil infraction as provided by RCW 17.10.230, 17.10.310, and 17.10.350 to owners who do not take action to control noxious weeds in accordance with the notice. Non-compliance may result in daily fines.
The public is also hereby notified that it is a violation of the Washington State Noxious Weed Law (RCW 17.10.160) to improperly prevent or threaten to prevent entry upon the land as authorized by this RCW, or any person who interferes with the carrying out of this chapter shall be upon conviction guilty of a misdemeanor.

The Cowlitz County Noxious Weed Control Board will be accepting applications from those persons interested in serving on the county’s Noxious Weed Control Board. Appointments will be conducted per those rules outlined in R.C.W. 17.10.050. The position for which applications will be accepted and reviewed is as follows:
1. Weed District No. 2: North County; Castle Rock, Silver Lake, Toutle (for a better description of the coverage area, contact the Weed Board).
This is a non-paying, volunteer 4-year position which is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to oversee the Noxious Weed Control Programs.

A hearing is scheduled for January 8, 2020, and the Weed Control Board has their scheduled regular meeting following the hearing at 6 pm on the second floor of the Administration Annex Building. On this day, the Weed Control Board will review application(s) and make a recommendation for the appointment of the District #2 supervisor.

Please be advised that due to a scheduling conflict, the Cowlitz County Noxious Weed Control Board has rescheduled their August 14, 2019 meeting to Monday, August 12th at 9:00 a.m. The meeting will be held in the 2nd Floor Conference Room of the Cowlitz County Administration Annex Building, 207 Fourth Avenue North, Kelso, Washington.

A public hearing will be held to adopt the 2018 Noxious Weed List for the Cowlitz County Noxious Weed Control Board. The hearing will be held February 14, 2018, at 6:00 PM, in the Cowlitz County Annex Building, the second-floor meeting room at 207 Fourth Avenue N., Kelso, WA 98626. Any person may appear and be heard either for or against the adoption of the proposed 2018 County Weed List. An open public meeting will follow the public hearing.

The Noxious Weed Control Board of Cowlitz County submitted a public notice for publication in the Daily News, for the expiring term of the Weed District #5 representative, on December 15th and 22nd, 2017, for anyone interested in serving on the Noxious Weed Control Board. Appointments are conducted per the rules outlined in RCW 17.10.050.
The Noxious Weed Control Board of Cowlitz County held a hearing on January 10, 2018, to consider all applicants. Immediately following the hearing, the Weed Board held its regularly scheduled public meeting to discuss any and all applicants for the expiring term. The Weed Board nominated Mr. Eino Suomi to serve as the Weed District #5 representative.
