  • Can I order any WA State birth certificate here? 
    • This office provides birth certificates for Washington State births from July 1, 1907, to the present. For births registered before July 1, 1907, please contact the Cowlitz County Auditor's Office.
  • How long does it take to get a certificate? 
    • Certificates for new births can take up to one (1) month to process.
    • All other orders are normally available the next business day after 2 p.m.
  • Live in another County? If you live in another county, you can order through Cowlitz County or your local county health department.
  • Was there an adoption? For information regarding adoption certificates, please visit WA State DOH.

Request Certificates from Cowlitz County Health & Human Services (CCHHS)

WA State law requires all applicants meet the minimum qualifications and provide proof of identity, eligibility documentation, and other required information before purchasing a certified birth certificate. (RCW 70.58A)

Noncertified informational copies are not issued on certified paper and cannot be used for legal purposes. They contain a watermark stating, "Cannot be used for legal purposes. Informational only."

Check with the agency or business you are working with about whether or not they will accept an informational copy prior to purchasing.

Ordering Birth Certificates: Methods & Instructions

Methods - Walk InWalk-in Orders
Visit CCHHS, located at 1952 9th Avenue, Longview, WA 98632. 
  • View map and generate driving instructions. 
  • Orders are normally available the next business day after 2 p.m.
Methods - Mail-InMail-in Orders
Print and complete the appropriate order form and mail the completed form and payment (check or money order made payable to CCHHS) to the address provided on the order form. Orders are normally mailed out the next business day via regular USPS mail.

Methods - Internet

Internet Orders
For an additional fee, you can order online through VitalChek, a third-party vendor. Internet orders can be delivered by USPS mail, UPS (for additional fees), or picked up at our 9th Avenue location.
