The Traveling Trunks
At the start of the 2011 school year, the Cowlitz County Historical Museum began a Traveling Trunk program to bring the museum right into the classroom and during the 2012 school year we expanded the program to include presentations on both the local Cowlitz Tribe and the Oregon Trail. Students greatly enjoy having the museum come to their classroom and the programs have become immensely popular reaching many elementary and middle schools throughout the Longview/Kelso area. The "Trunk" is a series of power point presentations that teachers can choose between and museum educators lead in the classroom with hands on objects and activities.
It is our belief that the Museum can and should be a resource for local schools to meet state standards while allowing students to enjoy learning about our community. For questions or to schedule a Traveling Trunk presentation, please contact Education Coordinator Danielle Robbins by email or call the museum at (360) 577-3119. NOTE: Traveling Trunks are not available the week of Thanksgiving through the first week of December.
