LONGVIEW, Washington — Cowlitz County Health and Human Services will focus on making COVID-19 vaccine accessible at temporary mobile clinics after closing the mass vaccination site at the Cowlitz County Event Center last Sunday.
Since opening the site in February, about 11,000 total doses of the two-dose Pfizer vaccine were given. Just over 5,300 of those doses were second doses, which means thousands of people are now fully vaccinated against the virus.
Cowlitz County Health and Human Services operated the site with Safeway and other local agencies and community partners. More than 275 volunteers and staff worked at the site at least once; many contributed 60 hours of their time.
“Operating the mass vaccination site was truly a team effort,” said Carole Harrison, Cowlitz County Health and Human Services director. “Thank you to all who helped over the past several months. This is what it means to make a difference in your community.”
People age 12 years and older can get vaccinated by contacting their regular health care provider or by scheduling an appointment at a local pharmacy or vaccination site. Those under age 18 may need consent from a parent or guardian.
This Saturday, May 22, a mobile clinic at the Wallace Elementary School cafeteria, 410 Elm St., Kelso, WA 98626, will offer Moderna vaccine while supply lasts. Moderna is available to people age 18 years and older and requires two doses.
People age 18 years and older can show up without an appointment between 10am-4pm to get vaccinated. Second doses of Moderna vaccine will be provided at the same location on Saturday, June 19. Language assistance will be available.
Cowlitz County Health and Human Services is coordinating the mobile clinic with Child & Adolescent Clinic and the Ethnic Support Council. People who have questions can call the Ethnic Support Council: (360) 431-1662 or (360) 636-2791 (Spanish option available).
Vaccination is free of charge for everyone. ID and health insurance are not required. People who are getting vaccinated do not need to provide a social security number, or other documents with their immigration status, to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
