Hepatitis Awareness: Do you know your status? The word "hepatitis" means inflammation of the liver. Hepatitis is most often caused by a virus. In the US, the most common types are Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C. There are vaccines available for infants, children and adults to help prevent contracting Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B. Talk with your healthcare provider to see if you can get vaccinated. For Hepatitis C and other Types of Hepatitis there are no current vaccines available. It is important to know how to prevent contracting Hepatitis and to get tested for Hepatitis C to stay as healthy as you possibly can! The CDC issued a recommendation that all Americans born from 1945-1965 get tested for Hepatitis C. People in this age group are five times more likely to have Hepatitis C.
