Cowlitz County Health and Human Services (CCHHS) confirmed today that two Cowlitz County
residents have died as a result of COVID-19. These are the first deaths due to COVID-19 in
Cowlitz County. Both individuals were in their 80s and had underlying health conditions. Both
required intensive care and died at the hospital.
CCHHS Deputy Health Officer Dr. Steven Krager said, “Our condolences go out to the family and
loved ones of these individuals. The tragic passing of these residents is a reminder that our rural
county is not immune from the permanent and painful impact of this disease.” No additional
information regarding the patients’ identities will be shared out of respect for the families.
To date, 322 Cowlitz County residents have tested positive for COVID-19. Cowlitz County has
seen a significant increase in the number of COVID-19 cases reported over the last month. Mask
wearing, social distancing and personal hygiene remain the best ways to prevent the transmission
