Clark and Lewis counties are immediately south and north of Cowlitz County. Both offer excellent attractions.

Skamania County borders Cowlitz County's eastern boundaries. Mount St. Helens is physically located within Skamania County but with access via Forest Service roads only. Much of Skamania County lands are part of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Rugged terrain, pristine streams and beautiful foliage are just part of what visitors will see.

In addition to information regarding attractions and events offered by the Skamania Chamber of Commerce, there is an Interpretive Center just off SR-14 at the community of Skamania.
Map of Western Washington showing Counties Lewis County is directly to the north of Cowlitz County. Its major cities are Centralia and Chehalis. Both feature exceptional antique stores and shops. Chehalis also offers historic train rides aboard a steam locomotive.

Lewis County's SR-12 runs east-west within the county, accessing the upper reaches of the Cowlitz River. Mayfield and Riffe Lakes form behind dams offering excellent water activities. SR-12 also provides access to the extreme northern slopes of Mount St. Helens. Windy Ridge View-point offers incredible vistas of the mountain and Spirit Lake.
SR-12 also accesses Mount Rainier (via other highways) and eventually crosses the Cascade Range at White Pass.
