K-9 Team
Deputy Brent Harris and Nitro.
We are excited about having
our K-9 team re-established. Thanks to funding by the Board
of County Commissioners this past year, and support form the Longview-Kelso
Kennel Club, we were able to purchase a new dog. Deputy Brent
Harris and K-9 Nitro have now completed the K-9 academy and are
certified by the Washington
State Police K-9 Association as a Generalist
Police Dog Team. We are looking forward to many years of
successful applications of the team
in apprehending criminals and finding lost persons. We are
also
very appreciative of the Longview
Police Department, especially Officer
Steve Dennis and his K-9 partner, Reno. They have graciously
covered the entire county for the past two years while our team was
rebuilt.
The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Team provides
a highly trained K-9 handler/dog team to augment law enforcement
services within Cowlitz County. They endeavor to provide a
handler/dog team capable of rapid deployment when requested, available
24 hours a day, seven days a week. The team consists of a
commissioned Deputy and a highly trained Police Dog. The team must
complete the requirements as set forth by the Washington Administrative
Code, and then pass the accreditation testing standards of the
Washington State Police Canine Association. The team trains each month.
Starting in the year 2000 the K-9 program was mostly funded for the
first time by the Cowlitz County Commissioners. However, generous
donations and contributions from the community continue to support the
team. If you would like to support the K-9 program or would just like to
ask a question or request further information you can email Deputy Brent
Harris at HarrisB@co.cowlitz.wa.us.
The K-9 Team is a part of the Operations Bureau at the
Sheriff's Office. |
