Small
Quantity Generator Program
Cowlitz County Small Quantity Generator Program (SQG), with financial
help from the Washington State Department of Ecology, offers hazardous
waste management technical assistance and waste disposal options to
businesses located in Cowlitz and Wahkiakum Counties. The program collects
small volumes of hazardous waste from businesses and consolidates the
material into larger and more cost efficient volumes suitable for shipment
to a hazardous waste management or recycling facility. The lower disposal
costs are passed directly to the customer.
Example: Used motor oil
is currently picked up (separately) from our facility
and recycled. There is no charge for the volumes we manage and therefore
no charge for a business to deliver small quantities to us.
Always dispose of hazardous waste through a designated hazardous waste
management or recycling facility. Never dispose of hazardous waste with
regular garbage, in the sewer system, down storm drains, or onto the
ground. Proper management of hazardous waste protects human health and the
environment and limits your liability for costly cleanups. Call if you
have questions; there is no charge for technical assistance calls.
A SQG is a business (including farms, schools, and churches) that is
exempt from most state and federal hazardous waste disposal regulations.
In order for the business to be a SQG, and benefit from the exemptions,
the following limitations must apply:
A SQG:

Generates less than 100 kilograms (about 220 pounds or 25 gallons) of
hazardous waste in any calendar month

Generates less than 1 kilogram
(about 2.2 pounds) of acutely hazardous waste in any calendar month

Never
accumulates more than 1,000 kilograms (about 2,200 pounds or 250 gallons)
of hazardous waste on site.

If you think you qualify as a SQG and need disposal assistance, contact
Rolly Ensign at Waste Control at (360) 425-4302 for
registration paperwork. Waste is accepted by appointment only. You will be
billed for the amount of waste delivered and receive disposal paperwork
that reflects proper disposal and/or recycling of your waste. Disposal
fees vary by the type of material.
