Used Motor Oil & Antifreeze
CONGRATULATIONS COWLITZ COUNTY -
In 2008, you recycled 39,164 gallons of used motor oil!
The Cowlitz County Department of Public Works sponsors the recycling of
used motor oil and antifreeze at several locations throughout the
County. Click here
to view a list of recycling locations and for steps on how to properly
recycle used oil and antifreeze .
Used motor oil can
be re-refined into a good, as-new lubrication oil. Oil never wears out, it
just gets dirty. Here are some facts concerning the recycling of used oil:
-
Recycling used
oil could reduce national petroleum imports by 25.5 million barrels of
oil per year, and save much of the energy to process it.
-
More than 4.5
million gallons of used oil are discarded every year in Washington
State. Used oil is the largest single source of oil pollution (over 40
percent) in our nation’s waterways. Most is dumped by
do-it-yourselfers.
-
Recycling used
oil in Cowlitz County is easy. Place oil in a clean, sealed container
(i.e. milk jug) and take to the nearest participating collection site
listed above and drain into the collection tank.
Recycling sites are
intended for the disposal of oil and antifreeze from residential
households. Businesses requiring the disposal of oil and antifreeze can contact
the Transfer Station at (360) 425-4302.
