Cost-Share Program
Who can apply for this assistance?
  • Private landowners with lands within Cowlitz County
  • Lands in Cowlitz County with a significant infestation of at least one of the eligible noxious weed species designated by the Weed Board for assistance under this program.
    • Tansy ragwort (Senecio jacobaea)
    • Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense)
    • Yellow archangel (Lamiastrum galeobdolon)
    • Knotweed ssp. (Polygonum ssp.)


How do I get started?

  • You must call our office and talk to one of our inspectors.
  • The inspector must be able to come out to your property to see the problem and make the best recommendation that works for you and your desired outcome.
  • The inspector will leave the application with you and give you more details about the program.



What does the program cover?
  • The program covers the cost of herbicides to treat the weeds listed above.
  • There are two programs:
    • Program A - Covers 60% of the cost of herbicides purchased to spray. The maximum re-imbursement is $350 per year (from January to December of each year).  The following weeds are coved by this plan:
      • Tansy ragwort
      • Canada thistle
      •  Yellow archangel
    • Program B - Covers 100% of the cost of herbicides purchased to spray.  The maximum re-imbursement is $500 per year (from January to December of each year).  The following weed is covered by this plant: 
      • knotweed species


Are there any reasons why I would be ineligible to apply for this program?

  • Yes.  There are several reasons why a landowner would not be eligible to apply for this program:
    • Attempting to defraud the Weed Program in any manner.
    • Applying hercides in violation of label rates or improper use of herbicides which can adversely impact the environment, water quality and human health.
