PRE-SENTENCE INVESTIGATIONS
We gather the facts surrounding the case by interviewing witnesses and the defendant, reviewing police reports, and the criminal history. Once complete, we then provide a report to the court along with a recommendation.

DEFERRED PROSECUTION MONITORING
For those individuals that have admitted to having a substance dependence problem and agree to attend a 2 year substance abuse program with monitored supervision for 5 years total.

STIPULATED CONTINUANCE
An agreement the defendant has with the court whereby they agree to conditions in exchange for a reduction of charges or dismissal at the end of probation.

PROBATION SUPERVISION
Individuals that have plead guilty to a misdemeanor offense and the court has sentenced them to meet conditions (treatment, no further criminal violation, etc) and to be under supervision for a specified length of time.

DIRECT REFERRALS TO COMMUNITY RESOURCES
This entails a one-time meeting with an offender when the Probation Officer sends the offender to an appropriate treatment program. The offender is given a deadline to demonstrate that he/she has completed the recommended program.  Direct Referrals are intended to provide low-risk individuals with social services.

DUI VICTIM IMPACT PANELS
This is a collaborative effort between the Probation Department, the Cowlitz County Victim Panel Coordinator, and many other dedicated volunteers. The panel provides offenders with information from victims and offenders of DUI crashes and the tragic consequences of drinking and driving.
The attendance fee is $40.00 per offender with approximately 80 offenders per month attending.

DUI EDUCATION PROGRAM
State law requires first-time Drunk Driving offenders to receive a minimum sentence of 24 or 48 hours in custody. Offenders attend an educational program at the County Conference Building using videos and presentations from alcohol treatment agencies, Alcoholics Anonymous, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Department of Licensing, and a trauma program through St. John Medical Center.
Offenders are required to pay $100.00 each for the cost of the program.
