Mosquito Control District
The Cowlitz County Mosquito Control District was established in 1991 under the authority of RCW 17.28 and encompasses all of Cowlitz County except for the City of Woodland.

The district works from May through September to control mosquitoes in Cowlitz County.  The district identifies areas with mosquitoes by dipping in wetlands, ditches and any other standing water for mosquito larvae and also by trapping adult mosquitoes.

Areas with mosquito larvae are treated with larvicides by licensed technicians to reduce the mosquito population.  Areas with heavy adult mosquito population are treated with a low volume fogger to reduce the mosquito population.

The district sets adult traps any place in the county where there is a known mosquito problem. The district does this to find concentrations of adults that are then treated with adulticide.

Any resident of Cowlitz County (with the exception of those people living within the city limits of Woodland) may call the Mosquito Control District hotline (360-425-5658) 24 hours a day to request help with mosquito problems on private property.  There is no charge for this service.  The district is funded by an assessment on all property except that in the city limits of Woodland.
