Basic
Health
Basic
Health
provides coverage through private health plans throughout
Washington State. Monthly premiums are based on family size, income,
age, and the health plan selected. Co-payments are required for most
services received. There are annual deductibles and coinsurance. In
addition, each member will have an annual out-of-pocket maximum.
For those who qualify for Basic Health, state funds will be used
to help pay a portion of the monthly premium. This means that
members may pay as little as $17 per month for each enrolled adult.
To qualify, applicants must live in Washington State, not be
eligible for Medicare, and not be institutionalized at the time of
enrollment. They must also meet Basic Health's income guidelines.
In addition, if a family qualifies for Basic Health, their
children may be eligible for coverage at no additional cost through
Basic Health Plus. This program offers children a wider range of
benefits, including dental and vision care, with no premiums or
co-payments.

Medicaid
Medicaid is the state and federally funded
"needs-based" medical assistance program administered by
the Washington State Department
of Social and Health Services (DSHS). Medicaid
provides a range of medical programs based on eligibility
categories. Eligibility is determined by income, family size and
other key factors. Funded by tax dollars, Medicaid is available at
no cost to eligible children, pregnant women, low-income families,
elderly, blind or disabled individuals.
The State of Washington has
additional medical programs for other eligible categories. These
include Refugees and Aliens, Medical Needy, Medical Indigent, Long
Term Care, Medicaid Cost Sharing, and General Assistance. |
