The Planning Division is responsible for developing and
administering land use and environmental policies and regulations.
Planners work with citizens and other governmental and private
agencies to develop policies and plans and ordinances to provide
guidance for development.
Staff reviews development permit applications to assure
compliance with the County Comprehensive Plan, Land Use Code
(zoning), and other applicable ordinances. Staff also administers
flood plain, shoreline, and surface mine policies and ordinances,
and reviews projects for compliance with the Washington
State
Environmental Policy Act (SEPA).
Proposals for short plats, rural
and urban subdivisions, variances, special uses and other
development activities are reviewed by staff and recommendations are
made to the
Planning Commission,
Hearing Examiner, and/or
Board of
County Commissioners.
