The
Environmental Health Unit of the Building and Planning Department
engages the public in discussion of environmental factors that may
have an effect on their health and safety.
The services offered by the Unit are provided in
conjunction with the Washington
State Department of Health and Washington
State Department of Ecology . Through
regulation, enforcement, and education activities, the Environmental
Health Unit strives to reduce or eliminate the level of risk
posed by environmental health hazards to protect and preserve
Cowlitz County’s environment and public health.
The Cowlitz
County Board of Commissioners has adopted an On-Site Septic Ordinance.
The
ordinance
is an adoption of the
State Septic Code, (WAC
246-272A), and State Recommended
Standards and Guidance documents for on-site treatment systems,
tailored to the County’s specific needs.
The Environmental Health
Unit is responsible for the following programs:
