Project
Lifesaver

Cowlitz County
Search & Rescue (CCSAR),
in cooperation with the Cowlitz County Sheriff's

Office, has launched a program
called Project
Lifesaver. This life saving effort is a program
in which persons with the potential of walking away from a caregiver
or home (typically Alzheimer's, etc.) can be outfitted with a
bracelet that emits a unique radio
signal. If a walkaway occurs, the family or caregiver calls 9-1-1
to make an immediate report. Along with the normal law enforcement
response, CCSAR will deploy SAR personnel with
the Project Lifesaver equipment.
Trained personnel will then activate the tracking equipment to help
locate the walkaway. Assuming no vehicle is involved, and a quick
call to 9-1-1 occurs, many walkaways are found within an hour.
