Candidate Filing Week for the 2020 Election will be May 11 - 15, 2020.
To submit a Declaration of Candidacy, you must meet the following requirements:
You must be a registered voter in the district for which you are filing.
Meet the qualifications for the office at the time of filing.
You must have a valid email address.
You must have a credit card if filing fees will be paid online.
In addition to filing with the Auditor's Office, many candidates are required to file paperwork and regular reports with the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission (PDC) within two weeks of starting a campaign.
Withdrawal of Declaration of Candidacy
A Declaration of Candidacy may be withdrawn by submitting a written request for withdrawal to the Elections Office no later than 5 p.m. on the Monday following the last day that candidates may file. If this deadline is missed, you cannot receive an extension. Filing fees are non-refundable.
Alternative to Filing Fees
Persons lacking sufficient funds to pay the filing fee may submit a filing fee petition. You must file in person at the Elections Office, located at 207 N 4th Avenue, Rm 107, Kelso, WA 98626. Filing fee petitions cannot be submitted online and are due no later than May 17th at 5 p.m. The amount of signatures required are based on the dollar amount of the filing fee for the position. No partial submission of payment and signatures will be accepted.
